Ponteland Leisure & Learning

Groups

There are several groups attached to Ponteland U3A. These meet weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Group meetings may be held in members’ houses or, where numbers are too large, local halls are used.

The weekly calendar below shows only the groups who have a fixed meeting day. Some other groups vary their meeting arrangements and are not listed in this calendar. Our Calendar page is linked to an online calendar and may give more specific information but we are in the early days of keeping it up to date.

A small charge is made by some groups, for example for materials, for tickets to the theatre or gardens, or towards the hire of a room. When groups arrange visits cars are normally shared, and contributions may be made voluntarily to the drivers on the basis of distance travelled. Current suggestions: up to 30 miles - £3 per person; 40 miles - £4 pp; 50 miles £5 pp. All return distances.

Members who join our u3a are entitled to take part in any group activities provided that a place is available. If you see a group you would like to join then please contact the Convenor for that group: contact numbers are shown on your membership card.

Members are also most welcome to suggest or form new groups if they have an interest not yet catered for or if the group you might be interested in is full. Our Group Co-ordinator can offer advice and support, and we would be very happy to form new groups readily when several people express an interest. You can also also check out the Suggested New Groups page -- see the Sidebar on the right of this page. You don't have to be an expert to launch a new group; the u3a model is co-operative with members sharing and developing the knowledge they have.

The Group Co-ordinator will keep a list of suggested groups and interested members and will bring this to most monthly meetings to advertise suggested groups and allow members to add their names.

Note to Convenors: If you wish to amend or add to the information supplied within your individual group pages, would you please contact the Webmaster . We are happy to add any extra information that you think will be relevant and useful for existing and potential members.
